Representatives from the governments of Brazil and Ecuador at the welcome session of the AYA2014

The main goal of AYA2014 is to reflect on and create efficient strategies to deal with the challenges of the globalization of ayahuasca. The world’s leading lawyers with experience in defending the use of ayahuasca in different contexts and international drug policy experts like Ethan Nadelmann will meet during the conference to focus on the legal and human rights issues surrounding ayahuasca.

We are very happy to announce that both the Brazilian and Ecuadorian governments are participating in this process: Leon de Souza García of the Brazilian drug policy department of the government (SENAD) will join us for the Welcome Session of this event, along with Rodrigo Vélez Valarezo of the same department of the Ecuadorian government (CONSEP). We are working hard to try to involve the Peruvian and Colombian authorities in this process.

He presently holds the position of director of drug policy coordination at the National Secretariat on Drug Policy (SENAD) from the Brazilian Ministry of Justice. • Rodrigo VĂ©lez is, since 2010, the Executive Secretary of the National Council for the Control of Narcotic and Psychotropic Substances (CONSEP) of Ecuador.
